She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Anna Schantin.
Survived by her sister Renata Heimgartner and her husband Werner, and first cousins Manfred Schwan and his wife Ursula, and Karl Schwan and his wife Elke. She was a loving mother of five children: Salvadore Losavio and his wife Chrissie, Maria Losavio and her husband Billy Dixon, Tricia Losavio and her wife Victoria, Jade Losavio and his wife Candace, and Andreas Losavio and his wife Brittany. She was the grandmother to A.J. Losavio, Kate’ Losavio Dyess and her husband Zack, Thomas Dixon, Elizabeth Dixon Chesne and her husband Drew, Karl Dixon, and Jaden Losavio. She was the great grandmother to Ava Losavio. She was also survived by her nephews J.J. Handley and Claus Heimgartner and niece Theresa Losavio Markey.
Anita, affectionately known as Omi, was born in Germany and moved to Louisiana in 1965 after marrying her former husband Anthony Losavio. After being injured in a car wreck in 1966, Anita became an inspiration to many as she never let her physical condition define or limit her. As a mother of five, she always made each child’s birthday a special occasion. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and everyone enjoyed the grand occasion of receiving an “Omi Stocking”.
Once her children were older, she worked at the Hope Center in Marksville, where she counseled others who were faced with addictions. In addition, she also spent her last 30 years sponsoring members of the AA community. She was always there to listen.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed swimming and spent countless hours in the pool at the YMCA. Her love of books was known to everyone; she instilled that love in her children and grandchildren. Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed by many. Gute Nacht und schlaf gut, Omi (Good night and sleep well)
