Henry G. Hanley, M.D.
A mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Henry G. Hanley, M.D. will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Alexandria, La. at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018. A Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria.
Dr. Hanley, a much loved and respected husband, father, grandfather, physician and cherished friend of many, passed from this life to the next on March 10, 2018 at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La.
Dr. Hanley, a cardiologist, practiced medicine for 52 years, and at the time of his death was caring for patients on a part-time basis with Freedman Memorial Cardiology in Alexandria and resided in Houston.
He earned a medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut and an undergraduate degree (cum laude) from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was born on February 11, 1941 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dr. Hanley was in private practice since 2002. Prior to that, he was a professor of medicine and Chief of Cardiology at Louisiana State University School of Medicine at Shreveport, La. for 22 years. Previously, he was a faculty member at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed his internship and residency training at Boston City Hospital, Boston University Medical Services, and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Grady Memorial, Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Hanley was a diplomat of the American Board of Medical Examiners in interventional cardiology from 2003-2013.
Dr. Hanley served many statewide organizations in Louisiana, among them as president and governor of the Louisiana Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and president of the American Heart Association, Louisiana Affiliate.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Kathy Davis Hanley, his children Tara (Hanley) and Eric Jester, April (Hanley) and Chris Wilson, Eric and Amie Hanley, and Alan Hanley and Brittney Brimberry and grandchildren Daniel Jester, Michael Jester, Christopher Wilson, Ellis Wilson, Henry Wilson, Brayden Hanley, Brooklyn Hanley, Brayden Follett, Savannah Hanley and Scarlett Hanley.
On the day of his death, Dr. Hanley planned to complete a full day of caring for his patients, many of whom were part of his practice for the past 15 years.
Surely God has welcomed him with open arms and with gratitude for a life well lived.
